Animal Instinct

A blog by a sweet friend got me to thinking about how men just get better as they get older. So much of the brashness, the wildness, the strong-headedness fades and is replaced by a mellow, richer spirit. Musicians seem to settle into their roles, and after the battles with the booze and the drugs are over, find a lightness in being, reflecting a newfound wisdom in their music.

Or not.

Thank goodness some men retain that bad-boy attitude and refuse to let the world change them. Lucky for us. Eric Burdon of the Animals was the first man that came to mind when I thought of men who have refused to "go quietly into that good night".  The lines carved into his face and his gift of a most amazing voice, enriched over the years, make him twice the man he used to be.  I'm pretty sure he'll die growling, with a petulant youth's smirk on his face. Good for him. And for us.

And as a wise man once said: "You wanna find the truth in life, don't pass music by. And you know I would not lie."

Now this was good! I had no idea. Shoot, I figured he had just faded away around 1969 or so!

Yeah, bad boys. I like them, too...

Faded away? Oooooh Nooooo, not Eric Burdon. He's still around and definitely kicking!

Glad you enjoyed. It sure got my morning off to a splendid start!

You blow me away with this language you speak so well. I am sitting here after a mental health day off,(took a nasty fall onto the concrete last night), and just as I am near turning in and putting the sore muscles and the weird hallucinations and light sensitivity to rest, I stumble upon what has been my personal anthem since first I heard it - "Don't let me be misunderstood", and no, not the orginal, but one that was obviously arranged and performed with me in mind. I no longer own a guitar, but when I got my first one, the first two songs I learned were the Peter Gunn theme and House of the Rising Sun...............

Thank you and bless you......
We're all here for a reason, and I think I am starting to figure out what yours is...........
Despite dribbling my skull like a basketball on the driveway last night, I think I'll doze off quickly, humming that tune in my mind.

Roger that, Pilot. I would love to see Eric Burdon. I've yet to have the pleasure.

I do hope you are on the mend, sweet friend, and that there are lasting repercussions (or concussions).

Dad has always loved the Animals. We would listen often to their 8-tracks in his old'66 Ford truck, just cruising along. Great memories.

Glad I could do my part to ease your pain. Do feel better.

Well, crap, of course I meant NO lasting repercussions...

Jeez, my head is not altogether - altogether - yet.
