The Light at the End of the Tunnel

How rare it is to go to bed with a smile on my face and wake up the same way.

As the whole world watches, the first of the 33 trapped Chilean miners made his way to the surface just after midnight.

A weary world somehow needed this, a story of the best of humanity. In a world where so much is wrong, this is so right.

Who doesn't love this story? Who doesn't rejoice with these people half a planet away? I believe that every now and then we need a reminder that we as humans are all connected. Consider this your wake up call this morning.

I know that no matter how my day goes today, I will go about my business with a smile on my face. I know that whatever I go through will pale in comparison to what these brave men and their families have gone through for over two months. I know that I will never think of Chile in the same way again.

FINALLY, something to cheer about in this old, tired world. Blessings to those miners, their families, and the rescuers. You've made this jaded chick believe just a little more.

Watching the ABC news special right now. Excellent. It was wonderful to see each man surface and be greeted by by family.

Makes one pause, doesn't it?

The next time you go to work, are you sure you get to come home at the end of the day?

Have you told all those who need to hear it that you love them?

Do you have a plan, 'just in case'?

Miracle!

It was funny and totally expected that I burst into tears when the little boy hugged his daddy when (as the first miner to make it back up)he stepped out of the capsule.

Good stuff

Kyle, my eyes were already wet at the first sight of that little boy crying even before his father reached the surface. To see a child so purely emotional, having been without his father for two months, weep in anticipation was more than this tough chick could stand, and so began the tears of my own. When I began getting ready for work later that morning, I was still teary, and let me tell you, putting on mascara was no easy task. It's a wonder I was able to pull myself away from the television at all.

Yeah, Edith Ann, it does indeed make you think. My job is nowhere near as dangerous as theirs, yet things do happen.

A heartwarmer. I think part of the pleasure was in seeing the Chilean govt act with such force and direction and precision. Also, the president there behaved a lot better than our presidents do when faced with catastrophe. Guess I can't write him in here in 2012.

Needless to say my mascara had already run down my face too.

But my lip gloss held firm.

What brand do you use, Kyle?

I simply MUST have it!
